If you are looking for a weekend suspense, do not watch this film. If you’re really into post-apocolyptic thrillers, do not watch this film. If you are a fan a the human struggle for survival and it’s prevailing through times of darkness, do not watch this film.

If you are a fan of slow-passed stories that takes humanity down to it’s true Godlessness and puts it’s discusting nature on display, you may appreciate this film. If notions of moral justification and the slow decay of ethical appreciation interests you, you may need to see this film. And lastly, if you totally love anything with Viggo Mortensen because he’s the shiz-nit, then you will probably love this film(out of principle).

Mostly filmed in Oregon and Pennsylvania, The Road is quite an exquisite peace of art. Carrying a burdensome, yet elegant character of remorse and despair, this film really brings out true questions of ethics and those tough decisions. This film is based on the novel written by Cormac McCarthy.

Director John Hillcoat takes a very unique approach to the development of the story–he made the movie just like the book! I doubt anyone will complain about The Road in this regard. While I haven’t read the original book in it’s entirety, I did actually read about 1/3 of it last year before a demanding schedule forced me to shelve it. Although, from what I did get a chance to grasp leads me to believe that Hillcoat stayed quite true to the author’s original mood and worldview.

All in all, this film is definately worth the watch so long as you’re not too easily lead into depression. =) …Gloom and doom at it’s best, The Road is a disgusting and nausiating reminder that the good guys don’t always live happily ever after.

P.S.
And of course Viggo was awesome…
